Step 1
Add ½ tsp or one scoop of Matcha Union Ceremonial Matcha powder to a deep bowl using a spoon or chashaku. We recommend a spouted bowl for easy pouring.
-
Step 2
Add approximately 1 tbsp of warm water to the bowl. Massage into a paste by applyinggentle pressure to your whisk until no lumps are left. Now add ⅓ cup of warm water to the bowl. Ensure that the water temperature doesn't exceed 80°C degrees to avoid burning the tea and a bitter taste.
-
Step 3
Use the chasen to whisk vigorously in a 'zig zag' motion until smooth and frothy. The movement should be from your wrist and remain at the surface of the liquid.
-
Step 4
Pour into your favourite cup and add ¼ cup of warm water for a classic Ceremonial Matcha.
Optional: Add your favourite sweeteners or make a Matcha Latte (omit adding ¼ cup of warm water and add milk instead)
Hot: Add ½ cup of steamed milk.
Iced: Fill a cup with ice. Pour matcha over ice and add up to 1 cup of milk.
