FAQ

MATCHA

What is matcha?

Matcha is a particular type of green tea made from tea leaves that are grown in the shade. The leaves are then deveined and ground to powder. This process removes the usual bitterness from the powder, making it one of the most delicious green teas out there.

The shade also helps increase the chlorophyll content in the leaves, up to 5 times that of regular tea. This added chlorophyll gives the leaves their unmistakable bright green colour and endows them with high concentrations of antioxidants and nutrients. One of them is l-theanine, an amino acid that helps regulate the stress hormone cortisol, benefiting your overall mood and keeping you relaxed.

What are the benefits of drinking matcha?

The list of benefits are practically endless, but here are a few:

    - The abundance of antioxidants and nutrients cleanses and detoxifies the body giving you a healthy glow.

    - L-theanine stimulates the production of alpha brain waves giving you an incredible ability to focus.

    - Keeps cortisol in check, helping you remain stress-free.

    - Mediates caffeine uptake, giving your system a clean and constant flow of energy.

    - Matcha is naturally low in sugar, naturally gluten-free and suitable for vegans.

    Where is your matcha from?

Our matcha is sustainably sourced from carefully selected farms in Japan - home to the most famous regions for the green tea leaf. The Ceremonial Matcha is handpicked from Uji, Kyoto, the birthplace of Matcha itself while our Premium Grade Matcha comes from Shizuoka, the largest tea growing region in Japan.

What time shall I drink matcha?

There is no rule when to enjoy matcha however we prefer to have it in the morning to boost our energy and metabolism throughout the day ...but then again maybe you want to power up for a night out!

How do I store my matcha?

Matcha is best stored in a cool, dark and dry place. We suggest refrigerating the matcha once opened and use it within 3 months to maintain freshness and quality.

What’s the difference between premium and ceremonial matcha?

Our ceremonial grade is centred on suiting the most meticulous of tea connoisseurs and measures up to the quality of matcha used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. It is made from the youngest shade-grown leaves and comes loaded with antioxidants giving it the unmistakable vibrant green colour. Its signature earthy flavours with undertones of sweetness are best enjoyed with hot water or a splash of milk only. Our Premium Grade Matcha is tailored for the avid user. It is an optimised blend that balances flavor, sweetness and color to create a high quality tea that can be used for your everyday cup of matcha or culinary recipes alike. This is why the Premium grade comes in a larger tin to ensure you don't run out too fast while drinking and cooking up your favorite recipes.

      CBD

      What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is the non-psychoactive compound of the cannabis Sativa plant. Unlike its well-known psychoactive peer, THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD does not give you a ‘high’; instead, CBD is known for its many positive effects on the endocannabinoid system.

Quickly: The endocannabinoid system is a complex biological system responsible for maintaining balance in the body by regulating processes such as immune response, appetite, metabolism, communication between cells, and much more.
This delicate balancing act is known as homeostasis.

We at Matcha Union are experts in providing you with the best we can, but we are not medical experts. The research on CBD and its effects on the endocannabinoid system is still in its infancy. SUSTAINABILITY

                      What is your environmental impact?

No matter what we do, we need to protect the place we all live in. And this principle underlies all our actions and our products. We strive to maximise our sustainability and minimise our carbon footprint, which means sourcing efficiently, reducing waste, recycling and teaming up with organisations that are trying to do the same. All our eco packaging is biodegradable, recycled and plastic free and we are working on creating viable alternatives throughout our whole product range that won't compromise quality*.

*For example, aluminum foil is the best way to seal matcha and keep it fresh away from oxygen and sunlight. So far all alternatives we tested have compromised the quality of our products. Recommendations are always welcome!
